چکیده

Satellite differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) has already demonstrated its potential to map co-, postand inter-seismic deformation since its successful application to the 1992 Landers Earthquake. The Ms 8.0 Wenchuan Earthquake, which occurred on 12 May 2008, was the strongest earthquake to strike China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake. The devastation of the quake was so widely spread that the PALSAR coverage appeared to be limited and six or more tracks with five or even more frames each before and after the quake are needed in order to map the co-seismic deformation. In this study, six interferograms were generated from ALOS PALSAR Path 471 to 476. The SRTM DEMs with a resolution of three arc seconds were used to remove the topographic phase from the interferograms. The ALOS PALSAR DInSAR results were compared to the ENVISAT ASAR ScanSAR result. It is observed that the ScanSAR DInSAR result was strongly affected by the decorrelation, whereas the PALSAR DInSAR result remained reasonably good due to its longer signal wavelength.

Alos Palsar Scansar Interferometry and Its Application in Wenchuan Earthquake

ScanSAR is a type of SAR imaging technology, in which SAR switches its antenna look angle cyclically to cover several subswaths and therefore to achieve a very wide coverage. Compared with the conventional stripmap mode, ScanSAR has lots of advantages due to its wide swath coverage and moderate resolution. The disastrous Wenchuan earthquake happened on May 12, 2008 caused large scale land defor...

Crustal Deformation in Australia Measured by Satellite Radar Interferometry Using ALOS/PALSAR Imagery

The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), launched on 24 January 2006, is a Japanese satellite carrying an L-band SAR sensor, namely the PALSAR, which is expected to demonstrate good performance in applications such as crustal deformation measurement, subsidence detection and landslide monitoring. This paper describes a case study of Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (DIn...

Mapping surface deformation related to the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake with ALOS InSAR and GPS observations

The Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008 in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, China. The devastating event caused a significant surface rupture and deformation in a large geographical area. This study intends to investigate the co-seismic surface deformations due to the main shock by integrating observations from interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) and global positio...

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Interferometry for Assessing Wenchuan Earthquake (2008) Deforestation in the Sichuan Giant Panda Site

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been an unparalleled tool in cloudy and rainy regions as it allows observations throughout the year because of its all-weather, all-day operation capability. In this paper, the influence of Wenchuan Earthquake on the Sichuan Giant Panda habitats was evaluated for the first time using SAR interferometry and combining data from C-band Envisat ASAR and L-band ALO...
